 Greetings all,
Happy New Year!
Because it is the beginning of a new year I thought it would be good to review the basic principles of Core Energetics. I am excerpting a message from John Pierrakos, Core’s founder. Who better to hear from on this subject? Hopefully it will remind us all what we are doing and why. What a glorious human being John was. I miss him!

Photo of me with little Jacques Noir, (Black Jack) my new therapy partner. Jacques is a miniature poodle who will be forever fluffy. He is in training to be a Therapy Dog and has already visited people in hospice, hospitals and joins me in some sessions with clients. You just can't stay depressed around Jacques! He is 9 months old, loves everybody including all dogs and cats, and is making me smile a lot.

Core Energetics by John Pierrakos, MD
 John Pierrakos is the founder of Core Energetics,
and
the co-founder
of bioenergetics with Alexander Lowen.
Core Energetics is a deep process that addresses five levels of human existence in the human entity.
These levels are:
1) The physical body
2) The feelings and emotions
3) The Mind and thoughts
4) The will
5) The spirit
Core Energetics, through the dimensions of energy and consciousness, works to break down and transform the individual’s defense system in order to reach the Core. The Core is the level of consciousness that represents the higher qualities of life with love being the central expression. The Core is the seat of love. This process enables the individual, by reaching the spiritual self, to become creative, receptive, and in touch with one’s “real self”. Core Energetics is a powerful process that affects one’s very” being”, first through the deep work with the body and secondly, by expanding the consciousness so that the person can discover his/her main task in life.
We cannot continue to give without walking our own path of awakening. When we feel stuck in our work, it means we are stuck in our own process. We may feel tired, burned out, resentful, and bored. We may make ourselves sick; we may have trouble with counter-transference issues. These are all signs that there is work to be done on ourselves.
The therapeutic work of this process is based on the following principles:
1) The person is a psychosomatic unity
2) The source of healing and the capacity to love is within the self and not in an outside agent, whether it be a physician prescribing drugs or one’s idealization of the spiritual process.
3) All of existence forms a unity that moves toward a creative evolution, both of the whole and the countless components. In the human entity, the evolution consists of deep transformation of the negative aspects of the personality into a creative whole.
 ...This work is directed towards transforming and dissolving obstacles, such as energetic blocks and their corresponding distorted feelings, that prevent the true function of the Core. Our character defenses, as manifested in our fears and chronic negative attitudes, block our inherent creativity on the physical as well as on the spiritual levels. The physical body is the laboratory of life and the vehicle through which we express our emotions, thoughts, and spiritual self. Striking information is revealed by the physical structure. By working with the body to help confront the defensive reactions of our emotions, we open up the way to our core energetic functions.
Our bodies are the most wonderful instruments for our evolutionary process. The focus here is on releasing the life energy held within our body as a way to touch the essence of our being or our Core. The vision of Core
The vision of Core Energetics is to help individuals and groups to transform the obstacles which block contact with one’s Core, the source of all healing, wisdom, joy, and creativity; in other, to fulfill their destiny.

When I Grow Up I Want To Be Me

Me! Me! Me!
I want to be me!
When a two year old starts throwing a tantrum most often she is fighting for her identity. Hanging out in the merging sweetness of mommy/me was wonderful bliss in the early months and up until recent times, but biological imperative kicks in and says, “Begin individuation now!
Kids are programmed to move toward being and keeping their inner most essence in tack while somehow most of the world tries to manipulate them out of it. The world of parents, grandparents, and society often wants to mold children to look and act a certain way. To keep the love a child so needs, most grow a good boy/girl mask and fool their parents into showing “love” to the mask while their real selves go underground. The Lower Self hides in the swirling mass of energy and stays mostly quiescent for fear of being discovered and punished by abandonment.
Oh! But now as adults we suffer deeply as we hide our essence. We create the very thing we never wanted. Abandonment. But this time we abandon ourselves. We heal by loving the deep down child within. The real beautiful self. The transformation comes when we allow ourselves to be sad, scared, and angry. (see Pathwork quote to the right)
 If God were to give you any personal instructions I think she would say, “I want you to be the best you that you can possibly be!” (Meaning - not some version of you that pleases your mother or father; or grandmother or the church, or school). “Be your deepest truest self,” She would instruct you. “I only made one unique you and your task is to be that you to the best of your ability!”
Use the following instructions like a mantra and say to yourself, I want to be the best __say your name __ that I can be! I’d say, “I want to be the best Pam”! I want to scrape off anything that isn’t Pam, like Michelangelo chiseled away anything that was not David, off the marble block and created the most amazing sculpture the world had ever seen, and may ever see.
This is about removing (chiseling away) our masks and finding our Core selves. As John Pierrakos explained it, our Core is “the seat of love”. We hide our truest most deep self from others to avoid pain. We learned to do that as little kids. Now we cause ourselves pain when we are not our truest selves. Besides what is the fun of living if we aren’t ourselves. Seems a wasted life!
Stand in front of a mirror and look yourself in the eyes. Who are you? Who are you deep down, past the superficial of height, weight, facial features, age, hair color etc?

Alexander Lowen MD, co-founded Bioenergetic Analysis with John Pierrakos MD. Al wrote 15 books: Language of The Body, Betrayal of the Body, Depression & The Body, Love & Orgasm, Pleasure, F ear of Life, Joy, & Love, Sex and Your Heart, among them. Al was still working when I visited him in 2005 at age 95. (pictured above) Full of life and energy Al was an inspiration to thousands of people world wide. Al died in 2008 just before turning 98.
